Iroquois Steeplechase on Flickr.
Percy Warner Park, Nashville, Tenn.
The annual steeplechase (dubbed peoplechase locally) is…kinda weird. Not the race so much, it’s typical horse-torture-for-entertainment material. The weird is the odd smash of folk who attend the race, the classy and the classless. I remember attending as a kid. The freaks, hippies, rednecks and normal people sat on the hill smoking pot and drinking cheap beer. The box seats were reserved for Belle Meade elite (Belle Meade is the old money section of town…if you watch the show “Nashville,” it’s where the character Rayna Jaymes lives…new money people live in Brentwood…I digress). I think the atmosphere has change since then, but not much.

Clearly there’s a light leak…need to find and destroy it.
